Hero image

We are excited to introduce our latest addition to The GROES Girls series, spotlighting friends of the brand, customers and community who inspire us.

This week we met with Sofia Girling, founder of Club Attiva, to talk all things community, wellness, and intentional living. She shares how she’s built one of London’s most connected wellness communities, her effortless approach to everyday dressing, and her advice for resetting and setting intentions as we move into January. Plus, discover her favourite Groes piece and how it fits seamlessly into her lifestyle.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND CLUB ATTIVA, WHY DID YOU START IT?

Club Attiva is really a reflection of what I’ve always believed wellness should feel like- supportive, social, and genuinely enjoyable. I describe it as your ultimate wellness companion because it blends fitness, holistic well-being and human connection into one experience.

The inspiration for Club Attiva actually came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when simply meeting a friend for a walk suddenly became such a powerful source of energy and joy. It reminded me that wellness isn’t only physical, it’s social, emotional, and deeply human. Too often fitness feels like something you do alone, but I wanted to change that by creating a space where people feel supported, seen, and connected.

I launched Club Attiva in December 2023 with the intention of making wellness more genuine, inclusive, and meaningful. My background is in PR, but after completing a course in nutrition and becoming a qualified health coach, I felt really driven to cut through the noise of the wellness world and build something real and something social.

At the end of the day, Club Attiva exists because wellness shouldn’t feel like a chore or a lonely pursuit. It should feel like a community. I wanted to host events with expert practitioners in London’s top studios, all of which have been tried and tested by us, and bring people together for wellness experiences that leave you feeling better in more ways than one. That’s what Club Attiva is all about.

YOUR PERSONAL STYLE FEELS BOTH EFFORTLESS AND INTENTIONAL. HOW DO YOU APPROACH EVERYDAY DRESSING AND WHAT ARE YOUR STAPLE PIECES?

Honestly, my everyday style is all about feeling comfortable and confident without overthinking it. A lot of the week, especially as I work in wellness, sees me in activewear, but I love elevating that look with thoughtful pieces that make me feel put together. For me, it’s never been about complicated outfits or super expensive clothes; it’s about simplicity, comfort and convenience, and choosing things that genuinely make me feel good.

A few staple pieces I always come back to are:

good jumper- something cozy but chic that works with jeans or leggings. My go-to's are Me & Em and GROES of course.

recently purchased the GROES Lora jacket. It instantly elevates my activewear look but it's also so chic to wear in the evening, and I feel so much more polished when I wear it.

A great pair of jeans- right now I’m loving the pair I picked up in Stockholm from Jeanerica; they fit so well and just go with everything.

Classic shirts that I can wear on repeat- I honestly can’t get enough of my GROES Florence shirts. I have four, and the chocolate brown and blue are my favourites. They’re such easy staples that you can dress up or down.

And of course, my Bottega belt- I’ve had it for years and it’s become one of those pieces I always reach for when I want an outfit to feel finished. They don't sell my one anymore, but a great place to get a good quality second hand version of these is Vestiaire Collective.

I love mixing these quality items with old favourites, it’s my secret to looking effortless yet intentional. Shopping thoughtfully, investing in pieces that last, and learning little styling tips and tricks from brands like GROES has really helped me feel my most confident and comfortable every single day.

YOU HAVE MANAGED TO CREATE ONE OF THE COOLEST, WELCOMING WELLNESS COMMUNITIES IN LONDON. WHAT HAS YOUR APPROACH BEEN TO GROWING CLUB ATTIVA AND ITS EVENTS?

Growing Club Attiva has always been about staying as authentic as possible and really engaging with the people who make up our community. I listen to them constantly and try to understand what they want more of and what they’re not so interested in, because at the end of the day, Club Attiva only works if it genuinely serves the people who show up.

I’ve never invested in ads or influencers, because for a community like this, the most important thing will always be the people in the room. I care about making sure our members align with our values and are there for the right reasons. We want people to leave events feeling like they’ve actually connected with someone, and to want to come back because of the relationships they’ve formed and the experience they have had.

One of my favourite moments of 2025 was seeing a group of girls arrive at an event together after meeting just a month earlier at another Club Attiva session. They now have a group chat called “Club Attiva Girls” where they share upcoming events so they can go together. That, to me, is everything. That’s what Club Attiva is about: creating genuine connections between like-minded people and offering a wellness experience that goes far beyond the physical benefits.

It’s community first, always.

JANUARY IS THE ULTIMATE RESET MONTH, WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO WELLNESS TIPS TO RESET FOR THE YEAR AHEAD?

I try to not see January as this intense detox month or a time to throw myself into an unsustainable health kick. For me, it’s more about building consistent habits that make me feel good, enjoying the slower pace before the year really takes off, and doing things that genuinely fill my cup.

To keep it simple and avoid feeling overwhelmed, I try to prioritise three things in January:

1. Home cooking- I focus on adding nutrients rather than restricting anything. Cooking for myself makes me feel healthy and grounded, and I gravitate towards high-protein, high-fibre meals that support my immune system and set me up for the year ahead. It’s not about perfection, just nourishment.

2. Wholesome nights with family and friends- Something as easy as making a nice dinner with a friend, having a laugh and watching a movie can make such a difference. Those slower, cosy evenings really recharge me and remind me that wellness is social too.

3. Daily movement (ideally with social connection)- Even a 30-minute walk with a friend can make you feel lighter and happier, and making sure you spend time with people who lift you up. Moving every day keeps me strong physically, but it’s also a huge part of supporting my mental health.

By focusing on just these three things, January feels calm instead of overwhelming. Then I slowly build on those habits month by month, rather than putting pressure on January to be some dramatic “reset.” To me, it’s really about recharging, taking a slower pace, and gearing up for the year ahead in a way that feels sustainable.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE GROES PIECE AND WHY?

It has to be the GROES shirt for me. Simply because it elevates any outfit, in any season. In summer, I’ll throw the blue or white one on open over a vest and shorts, and it instantly feels chic but effortless. In winter, I’ll wear it loose over jeans or tucked in with boot heels, and it just works every time.

The quality and colours are genuinely amazing, and it’s one of those pieces that makes getting dressed feel easy. I’d recommend it to anyone as the ultimate wardrobe staple.
